Lemon and Ginger Poached Pears - A Citrus and Pear Delight

Gently poached pears are a timeless dessert, and this version lets citrus take the lead. Fresh lemons add brightness and balance, while ginger and vanilla bring warmth and depth to the poaching syrup. The result is a light, fragrant dessert that feels both comforting and fresh.
This lemon and ginger poached pear recipe is simple to prepare and ideal for entertaining. The pears are cooked whole until tender, then finished with a drizzle of citrus-infused syrup and a spoonful of Greek yoghurt for contrast. A beautiful way to enjoy pears when they’re in season.
Ingredients
- 6 pears, peeled
- 3 cups of water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 vanilla pod
- 3cm piece of ginger, sliced thinly
- 2 lemons, sliced
Method
- Peel pears leaving stalk intact
- Heat water and sugar until sugar is dissolved then add vanilla pod, fresh ginger and lemon
- Add peeled whole pears to simmering water for about 30 minutes
- Remove from water once cooked and place on serving platter
- Drizzle pears with poaching syrup and serve with a dollop of Greek yoghurt
