The yellow finger lime tree is another rare finger lime in NZ. The fruit of yellow finger lime is fatter and the juice sweeter than the more common green finger lime variety. On ripening the rough, thin skin is a green/yellow while the citrus caviar turns a pale-yellow colour.

The yellow finger lime fruit looks particularly attractive on the tree, especially on our patio and standard ranges.

Names

Yellow Finger Lime, Citrus Caviar, Citrus australasica

Origin

Rainforests of Australia and Papua New Guinea.

Mature Size

2-3m high x 2.5 wide. The size can be controlled by pruning and or the pot size.

Foliage

Small dark green ovate leaves, with lots of thorns on the branches.

Soil

Well-draining, rich, slightly acidic to neutral pH (6-7.3) soil. Compost well

Position

Best in a warm humid location. If you live in a frost area, we recommend that you purchase our patio range or plant your finger lime in a large container.

Flavour

Sweet zesty juice which tastes like lime with a hint of lemon.

Fruiting

1-3 years old on our grafted trees. This compares to trees grown from seed that can take up to 6 years to fruit. It takes up to 6 months to ripen on the tree (summer to mid-winter). When ripe, the fruit is firm and comes away easily. Won't continue to ripen once picked. Unripe fruit tastes quite bitter.

Fruit Uses

All finger limes are best used raw as a decoration or flavour enhancer. The yellow finger lime is a great option when after a sweeter taste or pale-yellow colour.
