The Ponderosa lemon is a hybrid of lemon and citron, and it's a favourite in our nursery for good reason. Known for producing massive fruit—often tipping the scales at over 1 kilogram—these lemons are mild, juicy, and full of fresh citrus flavour. Oval-shaped with a smooth, thin skin, they're a showstopper on the tree and in the kitchen.
This tree is easy to care for and rewards you with a generous harvest. Prune in late winter or early spring to encourage new growth, and feed with a balanced citrus fertiliser during spring and summer to keep it thriving. We especially love it for its versatility: fruit for juicing, zesting, cooking, and those impressive “wow” moments when guests see its size!
The Ponderosa lemon tree is moderately cold-hardy, making it suitable for most New Zealand regions. Whether you're planting in a backyard orchard or a spacious container, it’s a stunning and practical choice.
