If you're looking for a mandarin tree, don't let Thorny's name put you off. The Thorny Mandarin Tree only has a few thorns but it produces an excellent flavoured, hardy mandarin. Some of our friends consider the Thorny Mandarin Tree to produce the tastiest mandarin in NZ.
Thorny is an easy peel, sweet, juicy fruit which remains juicy if left on the tree after ripening. Thorny mandarin fruits are typically medium to large size, with a loose, easy-to-peel skin and a minimal number of seeds.
This mandarin is valued for its excellent flavour and adaptability to various growing conditions. It is drought tolerant. Thorny mandarin is a flavourful and rewarding citrus variety that can be grown in various climates.
