The Kusaie Lime tree is a fantastic citrus option for Kiwi gardeners, offering a delightful combination of sweet and tangy flavours, compact size, and year-round fruiting potential. It is a yellow variant of the rangpur lime tree.
The ripe fruit of the Kusaie lime has a vibrant yellow-green skin, often with a slight blush, and a rounded or slightly oval shape. The peel is easy to remove, revealing juicy flesh with a well-balanced, mild acidity and intense lime flavour which is less acidic than other lime varieties. Perfect for both sweet and savoury dishes. Kusaie Lime trees are known for their compact and manageable size, typically reaching 2-3 meters in height and width. This makes them suitable for smaller gardens, patios, or even container growing.
The trees are moderately cold hardy, tolerating light frosts once established. However, they may need protection during harsh winters. Water regularly, especially during dry periods, but avoid overwatering. Fertili5se twice a year with a citrus-specific fertiliser and prune lightly to maintain the tree's shape and encourage healthy growth. If required, provide additional support for branches laden with heavy fruit to prevent breakage.
