The Kiyomi Tree is a tangor. A tangor is a citrus fruit that is a hybrid between a tangerine (which includes mandarins) and an orange. The name "tangor" is derived from "tangerine" and "orange." Kiyomi Tangor Tree is a hybrid of Miyagawa Wase Satsuma mandarin (Citrus unshiu) and a Trovita orange (Citrus sinensis). It was developed in Japan in 1949. Tangors typically inherit characteristics from both parent fruits, resulting in a fruit that combines the sweetness and juiciness of oranges with the easy-to-peel skin and distinctive flavour of tangerines.
Kiyomi tangor trees typically bear medium to large sized fruit which are larger than mandarins but smaller than sweet oranges. The Kiyomi fruit averages around 7-10cm in diameter. The shape of the Kiyomi fruit is flat and slightly pear shaped. The skin is thin, smooth, and easy peel. The rind which has a vibrant orange hue when ripe, separates easily from the segments. Kiyomi flesh is segmented and typically seedless. It is sweet, and juicy, with a balanced tanginess that makes it a refreshing and delicious snack. Kiyomi Tangor Tree produces early maturing fruit, typically ripening in late autumn to early winter.
