Golden Special grapefruit tree is a delicious and versatile grapefruit that's easy to grow and care for.
Unlike traditional grapefruits, the Golden Special Grapefruit tree boasts a balanced sweetness with a mild tang, making it a more palatable option for many. Known for its ease of peeling and relatively few seeds, the golden Special Grapefruit is a hybrid of the Marsh Seedless grapefruit and the Duncan grapefruit. The tree was developed in New Zealand in the 1930s. The Golden Special grapefruit is a subtropical fruit and requires a warm, sunny climate. It will not do well in areas that experience heavy frost.
The fruit can grow up to 5 inches in diameter and provides an abundance of juice. Golden Special grapefruit fruit has a deep yellow, thin, easy peel skin. The flesh is an orange colour and typically contains fewer seeds compared to other grapefruits, making it more enjoyable to eat.
