Hailing from Venezuela, the Cara Cara Orange tree is a natural mutation of the Washington Navel Orange. Cara Cara oranges are renowned for their exceptional sweetness. They lack the sharp acidity of traditional oranges, instead offering a honeyed sweetness with a raspberry flavour and additional notes. These notes have been described as: cranberry, blackberry, rose, grapefruit and even a touch of vanilla. These descriptions sound rather pretentious, but the truth is, whatever the flavour description, the Cara Cara fruit is a complex and delightful taste experience which we just love. The juice is gorgeous to look at and to drink also.

Cara Cara is perfect for those who find regular oranges too tart. Cara Cara orange rind boast a stunning blush, ranging from a soft apricot to a deep pink. The flesh is a vibrant pink to coral colour. Unlike many citrus varieties, Cara Cara oranges are practically seedless, making them ideal for snacking and juicing.

Cara Cara trees produce heavy crops of juicy oranges throughout the season. The fruit typically ripen between July and September, providing a delightful taste of summer in the heart of winter. They thrive in warm, sunny regions but can also handle milder temperatures, making them suitable for a variety of locations.

Note: Sometimes Cara Cara is sometimes described as a blood orange. While it has pink skin and flesh, it is not a blood orange.
