How to Make Citrus Waste Disposal Cleaner
Mar 01, 2025
I used to love the smell of lemon or lime peel being ground up in my parents waste disposer. Their kitchen always smelt so fragrant and fresh.
We now have access to so many different varieties of citrus fruit, we are not limited to just lemons and limes. We created this recipe to help you clean your waste disposer, while also perfuming your kitchen.
Give it a go, we're sure you will love it.
Ingredients:
- Citrus peels e.g.: lemons, limes, oranges, kaffir lime, buddha’s hand or Etrog
- 1lemon, lime, orange or kaffir lime cut into quarters
- Ice cubes
- Coarse salt
- Baking soda
Instructions:
- Place citrus peels, citrus quarters, a handful of ice cubes, and a tablespoon of coarse salt into the waste disposer
- Turn on the waste disposal and let it run for a few seconds to grind up the peels and ice.
- Add about half a cup of baking soda into the disposal.
- Run hot water down the drain to wash away any residue.
Your waste disposal will be clean, deodorized, and free of buildup.
Photo Below: shows the ingredients for the waste disposer cleaner. The peels are Villa Franca Lemon, Washington Navel Orange, Whole Bearrs Lime and the Yellow Peel with lots of pith is Etrog. Note: you don't need a combination of peels. We used a variety as we had had a lot of different fruit left over from when we photographed the bowl of fruit and the cut citrus.
